(Un)equal voices in higher education

29. March 2023, 18:0019:30

In this conversation with Kellie Gonçalves, a sociolinguist at the University of Bern working on discourse analysis, intercultural communication and language at the workplace, we would like to shed light on linguistic patterns of (in)equalities in higher education. Which speech mechanisms contribute to reproduce status hierarchies and social inequalities in higher education? What can it bring to be aware of these dynamics? What can we change about them at the individual and/or collective level? This discussion is for all historians who would like to gain new insights on power dynamics during higher education seminars, conferences, or meetings and who would like to reflect on opportunities for change.

The discussion will be in English, but feel free to participate in the langage of your choice (English, French or German).

With: Kellie Gonçalves (University of Bern)
